Esteban van Goor is a tax lawyer in the indirect tax department at Baker & McKenzie, Amsterdam. He specializes in VAT and GST aspects within the digital economy (amongst which bitcoin, gaming and iGaming).
Combining his knowledge of technology and VAT/GST has allowed him a unique understanding of tech businesses, which has enabled him to provide clients with an industry-focused, customized approach. He is currently working on a PhD on the VAT treatment of e-services within EU VAT law (including bitcoin and iGaming).
His experience in VAT/GST ranges from addressing issues related to sales structuring, to assisting clients in discussions with tax authorities and writing opinions or position papers for lawmakers on the VAT/GST treatment of blockchain, bitcoin and iGaming. Mr Van Goor also provides guidance to various tech start-ups on VAT/GST (general tax) matters and he is a frequent speaker on these topics at technology-related conferences. He is a member of the Dutch Association of Tax Advisers (NOB).
